UNDATED (WTVB) - Medicaid surgical patients stay in the hospital longer than people with private insurance. Michigan researchers also found they have worse health before their operations and more complications afterward. The researchers said this could financially ruin hospitals, since they don't recoup all the costs of Medicaid patients' care. The researchers also said millions of newly-eligible people may use Medicaid to fix untreated health problems. That could also mean financial problems for hospitals, because under the Affordable Care Act Medicaid payments to hospitals will decline over time.
