Daylight Savings Time begins Sunday, thanks to Fred

WASHINGTON D.C. (WHTC) - Daylight Savings Time begins this Sunday morning at 2 AM, and you can thank, in part, Fred Upton for that. The congressman from St. Joseph co-sponsored federal legislation in 2005 that extended the DST period by five weeks – a full month earlier than the old start date of the first Sunday in April, with the ending on the first Sunday in November a week later than the old finishing date.

Upton, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, claims that the longer Daylight Savings Time period leads to increased electrical energy savings.
