LANSING (WKZO) -- Former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm overstepped her authority when she revoked the commuted life sentence of Matthew Makowski in 2010. That's the opinion of the Michigan Supreme Court, which has unanimously ruled that a commutation cannot be revoked by a governor.

The ruling means Makowski will be eligible for parole after 25 years in prison. He was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of a health club worker in Dearborn in 1988 during a robbery that he had arranged.
