Secretary of State reminds voters of August 5th primary election

LANSING (WKZO) -- Secretary of State Ruth Johnson hopes voters will turn out this coming Tuesday for the August primary election.

Johnson wants to remind voters that because it is a primary election, voters can only cast votes within one political party instead of voting split-ticket. Anyone voting for candidates in more than one political party will find their votes for that part of the ballot invalidated. Non-partisan elections and proposals are on a separate part of the ballot, and even if the partisan portion is invalidated, the other votes will still be counted.

Voters are also asked to present identification or else sign an affidavit on-site declaring their U.S. citizenship. There is also still time to request an absentee ballot. Polls are open Tuesday, August 5th, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
