On Saturday, the day before U2 took home a Golden Globe trophy for Best Original Song from a Motion Picture for "Ordinary Love," the band gave its first live public performance in four years.  Billboard reports that the surprise concert took place during actor Sean Penn 's third annual Help Haiti benefit, which was held at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

The Irish rockers played a brief set that included "I Will Follow," "Desire" and "Vertigo."  Prior to the band's performance, Bono and The Edge took the stage to play a few songs with Haitian singer Anaelle Jean-Pierre , including a duet rendition of Leonard Cohen 's "Hallelujah."

A montage of fan-filmed clips from the evening's performances can be viewed now online at YouTube .

According to Billboard , the charity event raised almost $6 million for the J/P Haitian Relief Organization.  Among the many stars who attended the gala were Bette Midler , Michael Douglas , Gwyneth Paltrow , Charlize Theron , Sarah Silverman and Idris Elba , star of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom , the movie for which U2 wrote "Ordinary Love."
