Coinciding with what would have been Elvis Presley 's 79th birthday, RCA Records and Legacy Recordings announced today that an expanded, 40th anniversary edition of the Elvis Recorded Live on Stage in Memphis album will be released on March 18.

The two-CD set will include all of the songs from the original album documenting Presley's March 20, 1974, homecoming concert, as well as 10 previously unreleased performances from the show.  In addition, the second disc will boast an entire unreleased "test run" concert Elvis recorded in Richmond, Virginia, two days before the Memphis show.  The bonus CD also contains five rare rehearsal recordings, three of which are previously unreleased, that Presley laid down in August 1974 at RCA Studios in Hollywood.

Presley's March 1974 Memphis concert was the finale of a 15-date tour the King of Rock 'n' Roll had scheduled and was the first show he'd played in his hometown since 1957.  The expanded album offers previously unheard renditions of a bevy of Elvis classics, including All Shook Up," a medley of "Teddy Bear" and "Don't Be Cruel," "Love Me Tender" and "Suspicious Minds."  Disc two's "test run" features a mono recording of the aforementioned Richmond show, which boasted the exact same set as the Memphis gig.  The bonus tracks from Presley's RCA sessions include unreleased versions of "Down in the Alley," "Good Time Charlie's Got the Blues" and "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face."

The 40th anniversary edition of Elvis Recorded Live on Stage in Memphis will be packaged with a 24-page booklet containing rare photos and memorabilia, newly penned liner notes and more.
