WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKZO) -- John Dingell, the longest-serving member of the U.S. House, is retiring at the end of this term.  Dingell made the announcement Monday that he will not be seeking a 30th term in office.

Having served for 58 years, Dingell is the Dean of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Dean of the Michigan Congressional delegation.  He is one of two World War Two veterans still serving in Congress, the other being Texas Congressman Ralph Hall.

Last June, Dingell became the longest serving member of Congress in history when he reached 20-thousand, 997 days of service.
