It's been about 25 years since The Jacksons have released a new studio album, but Jackie Jackson says he's hoping the sibling group's upcoming Las Vegas residency will give him and his brothers the chance to finally complete a new record.

"During the daytime [we] can finish recording and then do the shows during the evening time," the eldest Jackson brother explains to Billboard .  He reveals that the album is at least halfway done, and is hoping it will be completed by the early summer.

Jackie says the group's new material "sounds like Jacksons music, with today's sounds."  Acknowledging that "[p]eople still want to hear that Jackson 5 harmony," he notes that "there's a lot of new flavors we can combine that with."  He cites Bruno Mars ' "Treasure" as an example of a recent tune has an "old Jacksons" sound.

The new album will be a follow-up to The Jacksons' 1989 effort, 2300 Jackson Street .  The group has been collaborating with a variety of as-yet-unrevealed contemporary musicians and producers on the project.

Meanhwile, The Jacksons -- Jackie, Tito , Jermaine and Marlon -- kick off their Vegas residency on February 20 at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.  The 40-date stand is part of the RockTellz & CockTails series, which combines a traditional concert with multimedia and theatrical elements.

Jackie, who's a Las Vegas resident, tells Billboard that the show will feature "a lot of storytelling, [including] stories that you've never heard before."  He says that some of the tales will be about "what Michael used to do, what we all did," adding that "it's gonna be a lot of fun."
