LANSING (WKZO) -- House Democrats say that having the state's Republican Attorney General lead the investigation into the escape of a quadruple murderer is too political a move to be unbiased.

"Republican politicians are unlikely to want to acknowledge that the top officials of their own party in the state made a decision that contributed to a prison escape," says House Minority Leader Tim Greimel.

Greimel is referring to Republican budget cuts that lead to a reduction in the number of officers patrolling the prison's parameter. The investigation stems from the February 2nd escape of Michael Elliot from the Ionia Correctional Facility.

Elliot, who was apprehended the next day in Indiana, reportedly cloaked himself in white clothing in order to blend in with the snow covered prison yard.
