DETROIT (WKZO) -- A new estimate is out concerning the number of stray dogs and cats in Detroit.

Michigan State University political science professor Laura Reese estimates there are 18,000 stray cats and 7,500 stray dogs in the Motor City, meaning 54 dogs and 129 cats every square mile.  She calls the number of strays “a sign of disorder in the community” according to the “Detroit News.”

Reese has been studying the number of strays in Motown for more than a year.
