The Tigers needed extra innings to beat the Royals 2-1 yesterday at Comerica Park. Ian Kinsler hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to put Detroit up 1-0, a lead they would hold until the ninth when closer Joe Nathan allowed Kansas City to tie the score. In the bottom of the tenth, Kinsler came up with another big hit and singled in the winning run. Starter Max Scherzer scattered four hits while striking out seven over eight innings for a no-decision, while Al Albuquerque got the win. In the series finale this afternoon, the Tigers send Anibal Sanchez to the mound, while the Royals counter with Yordano Ventura.
