The Tigers rallied to beat the Kansas City Royals 4-3 yesterday in the season opener for both teams at Comerica Park. With Detroit down 3-1 in the seventh inning, new shortstop Alex Gonzalez tied the game with an RBI triple, then hit a single in the ninth to plate the winning run. Victor Martinez put the Tigers on the board with a solo homer in the second. Joe Nathan picked up the win, pitching a perfect ninth, while starter Justin Verlander gave up three runs, two earned, on six hits while walking three and striking out two in six innings. Detroit is off today.
