After recently racking up the most nominations for this year's Q Awards, David Bowie is now in the running for another prestigious U.K. honor.  The influential rocker's new release, The New Day , has made the short list for the Mercury Prize, which is awarded annually to the best album from the U.K. and Ireland.

Bowie will be facing off against 11 other acts for the prize, which is voted on by industry experts, with the winner receiving a check for 20,000 pounds, or just over $32,000.  The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is the oldest and best-known artist up for the honor, while the list of other nominees includes The Arctic Monkeys , Foals , Jake Bugg and Laura Marling .

Bowie was nominated once before for the Mercury Prize.  His 2003 studio effort Heathen made the short list that year, but didn't win the award.  The 2013 winner will be revealed on October 30.  To see the full list of nominees, visit MercuryPrize.com .
