Jon Bon Jovi is used to filling stadiums with cheering fans, and now his son will have the chance to do the same, albeit for a different reason. Eighteen-year-old Jesse Bongiovi has been chosen as a member of the University of Notre Dame's football team.
According to The Hollywood Reporter , the freshman athlete earned his spot on the squad as a walk-on player. Bongiovi's official roster page reveals that he will be playing cornerback; he's five-feet, nine-and-a-half-inches tall and weighs 183 pounds. Jesse graduated from Brooklyn's Poly Prep High School in New York City, where he earned two letters for football and three for lacrosse.
In a recent interview with CSNChicago.com, the Notre Dame football team's head coach, Brian Kelly , said of Bongiovi, "He's a tough kid. The kids really like him. They respect him. They don't look at him as a rock star's son. They look at him as a kid that loves Notre Dame and wants to play football and help this team."
Notre Dame kicked off its 2013 season at home in South Bend, Indiana, on Saturday by beating Temple, 28-6. The team's next game takes place this Saturday at the University of Michigan.
Jesse's dad also has keen interest in football -- Jon is a longtime New York Giants fan and was formerly one of the owners of the pro arena football team the Philadelphia Soul.
