Anti-abortion measure could be on Michigan ballot

LANSING, MI (WTVB) - Michigan’s Secretary of State is in the process of determining if Michigan Right to Life has collected enough signatures to force a vote on a controversial anti abortion measure. A poll shows if it went to voters today, it would lose. It would exclude coverage for non-emergency abortions from all basic insurance plans, requiring that women pay extra for the coverage thru separate riders.

A new poll conducted for Inside Michigan Politics has found that only 36% of the state’s voters would support such a restriction.  53% would oppose it. Its only chance may be with the legislature which would be given a 40 day window to make it law.   The MIRS news agency reports that neither Senate Leader Randy Richardville or House Speaker Jace Bolger have made plans to deal with the issue which may be headed their way soon.
