Delta says it opposes use of cell phones on airliners

WASHINGTON D.C. (WKZO) -- The FCC is considering a proposal to loosen the rules on cell phone use on board airliner flights, permitting passengers to make calls once the planes are above 10-thousand feet.

There have been concerns that the transmitters might interfere with the complex avionics used to fly planes these days, but tests have found that is not the case.

Delta, the largest Air Carrier out of Kalamazoo and Detroit says it has no plans to allow cell phone calls on flights, even if it’s allowed.

They say passenger opposition is overwhelming.

The FCC will take up the issue on December 12, 2013, but would leave the actual decision whether or not to allow the use of the devices to the Airlines.
