Former Alice Cooper / Lou Reed guitarist Dick Wagner has overseen a new "We Are the World"-style collaboration featuring an impressive list of veteran rock and pop artists that will help raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Ex- Grand Funk Railroad frontman Mark Farner and Cars guitarist Elliot Easton are just two of the stars featured on the tune, "If I Had the Time (I Could Change the World)," which Wagner wrote and produced. The track is available for purchase now as a digital download at iTunes, Amazon.com and CDBaby.com.
Other artists who contributed to the recording include founding Chicago drummer Danny Seraphine , members of Vanilla Fudge , ex- Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle , one-time KISS guitarist Bob Kulick , Missing Persons frontwoman Dale Bozzio and Knack bassist Prescott Niles . The song was recorded at Sunset Sound studios in Los Angeles. A video featuring footage from the sessions can be viewed at the Rockers for St. Jude's official YouTube channel .
"'If I Had the Time (I Could Change the World)' reflects the notion that we can do something positive to help change lives," says Wagner in a statement. "The children are the purpose of this song, and everyone who participates in this recording gives a little of themselves."
He adds, "It's a great honor for me to work with such diversified and talented people, toward helping the children at St. Jude. So we all come together, and in the words of Quincy Jones at the 'We Are the World' sessions, we leave our 'egos at the door.'"
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is an acclaimed facility that focuses on the research and treatment of young people with cancer and other serious diseases.
