WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKZO) -- Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle are planning to honor U.S. Representative John Dingell next month when he becomes the longest-serving member of Congress.

The 86-year-old Democrat from Dearborn will mark 57 years, five months and 26 days of continuous service on June 7th.  In 1955, Dingell won a special election for the seat in the House held by his father, John Dingell, Senior, who died in office.

Thursday, legislators including Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi announced a special celebration will be held to mark the milestone on June 13th at the Capitol.
