Stabenow predicts Farm Bill will pass

WASHINGTON (WKZO) -- Michigan's junior U.S. Senator is confident a five-year farm bill will be passed by Congress this year.

Senator Debbie Stabenow chairs the Senate Agriculture Committee and says she's been assured by House Speaker John Boehner that once the bill is ready, it will be brought to the House floor for a vote this year.  The Senate passed a Farm Bill last year, but it was never allowed to be on the House floor for a vote in 2012, with election-year politics blamed.

Stabenow says the farm bill cuts federal spending by 24-billion dollars over current agriculture spending by eliminating direct payments to farmers and expanding crop insurance.
