While Cheap Trick has been filling in its 2013 tour itinerary, the power-pop legend's frontman, Robin Zander has been making some additional plans.  The singer has scheduled a handful of upcoming dates with his new side project, the Robin Zander Band .

Backing Zander in the outfit are guitarist Mark Hitt , bassist Larry Hobbs and drummer Steve Luongo .  Luongo used to play in late Who bassist John Entwistle 's solo group, and he and Hitt also were members of the band Rat Race Choir .

After playing an intimate warm-up show this Sunday at The Hideaway in St. Petersburg, Florida, the group has four other shows lined up in April.  The gigs take place this Wednesday at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York City; Thursday at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, New York; Friday at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, New Jersey; and April 21 at the Crazy Olive in Cape Coral, Florida.

The Cape Coral concert is free as part of a benefit that will include an auction, food sales and other activities to raise funds for ailing Push singer J. Jaye Steele , who has been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer.

Cheap Trick, meanwhile, is slated to hit the road in May, beginning with a May 3 appearance at the Funshine Festival in Tampa, Florida.  The band's schedule includes a series of joint shows with Pat Benatar .  Log on to CheapTrick.com to find out more information about their tour plans.
