E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt was very close friends with the late James Gandolfini with whom, of course, he co-starred in the landmark HBO series The Sopranos .  Little Steven was among the many celebrities that sent out tribute messages to the respected actor after news of his death yesterday began to spread.  Now Van Zandt's boss, Bruce Springsteen , has joined his band mate in paying special homage to Gandolfini.

According to The Hollywood Reporter , in the middle of Springsteen and the E Street Band's concert Thursday in Coventry, England, the group delivered a full performance of Bruce's classic 1975 album, Born to Run , in honor of Gandolfini.  While dedicating the special performance to the actor, Springsteen reportedly referred to the actor as his "great friend."

Gandolfini was attending a film festival in Taormina, Italy, when he passed away suddenly from what is speculated to have been a heart attack.  He was 51.
