Twisted Tales , the final studio album recorded by late Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek , was released on Tuesday . The 10-song collection is a collaboration with veteran blues guitarist Roy Rogers , who also worked with Manzarek on two other albums, 2008's Ballads Before the Rain and 2011's Translucent Blues .
Twisted Tales features tunes that showcase Manzarek's classic driving keyboards and Rogers' slithery slide guitar, with lyrics contributed by a variety of writers and poets. Ray also lends his vocal talents to many of the songs.
"In our last meeting together before his passing, Ray and I were both very excited about the upcoming release of Twisted Tales ," Rogers says in a statement. "We signed off on the artwork and agreed that it should be released sooner than later. So, honoring that decision, I have proceeded with the release."
Rogers adds that he and Manzarek "both were proud of this recording," while noting that the album "is dedicated to Ray's memory."
Twisted Tales is available as a CD and as a digital download. It can be purchased at Manzarek-RogersBand.com, as well as via Amazon.com, iTunes and online music sellers.
In other news, a documentary about Manzarek's collaboration with Rogers currently is being edited and is expected to make the rounds at film festivals this fall. Ray died on May 20 at age 74 after a battle with bile-duct cancer.
