The Kinks ' Ray Davies has revealed that he's planning to release a new solo album in conjunction with the publication of his forthcoming memoir, Americana -- The Kinks, The Riff, The Road: The Story .  He tells the U.K. tabloid Daily Star that the recording "includes lots of hobby songs I've written over the past 20 years while I travelled around -- a musical diary."

He adds that he's "never shown [the tunes] to anyone but they're a great way of helping me understand myself."

Americana , which is scheduled to hit stores on October 1, focuses on his conflicted feelings about the United States.  The 320-page autobiography will feature the singer/songwriter's recollections of The Kinks' first stateside trek and the group's subsequent four-year ban from touring in the U.S.  It also will offer an account of the 2004 shooting incident during a robbery in New Orleans that almost claimed Davies' life.  In addition, the book will an eight-page insert including color photos from Davies' and The Kinks' private archives.
