Steve Hunter , the lauded guitarist whose fluid playing is featured on classic recordings by Alice Cooper , Lou Reed and Peter Gabriel , has released a new solo album in which he returns to the blues music that inspired him at an early age.  The Manhattan Blues Project features a impressive list of guest artists, including Aerosmith 's Joe Perry , Chickenfoot 's Joe Satriani , ex- King Crimson bassist Tony Levin and Johnny Depp .

In a video interview promoting the record, Hunter says he wanted the new collection to reflect his love for both the blues and New York City.

"Most albums I hear in regards to New York generally [are] jazzy, which is cool, but I wanted to do something different," he explains.  "I wanted to do something in a bluesy way, because I kind of saw the more soulful part of Manhattan."

The 12-track collection, which includes mostly original compositions, also features covers of Gabriel's "Solsbury Hill" and Marvin Gaye 's "What's Goin' On."  It worth noting that Hunter contributed lead guitar to the original version of "Solsbury Hill."

Perry and Depp play together on a 12-bar blues tune titled "The Brooklyn Shuffle."  "I was thrilled when that happened," declares Hunter.  "I told them both, 'Plug the guitars in and have a blast,' and it sounds like to me they did."

The Manhattan Blues Project is available for purchase now at the CD Baby website and via iTunes.  Visit TheManhattanBluesProject.com for more information about the record.
