Michigan same-sex adoption challenge moves forward

DETROIT (WKZO) -- The challenge to Michigan's law on same-sex adoptions and ban of same-sex marriages can continue under a ruling from a U.S. District Court judge.

The case had been on hold until a U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act, which was effectively struck down last week.  April DeBoer says she and partner Jayne Rowse are pleased that Judge Bernard Friedman ruled against the state of Michigan's request to dismiss the matter.

DeBoer and Rowse want the right to be recognized as parents of each other's children and the case was expanded to examine the legality of the state's same-sex marriage constitutional amendment.
