Governor Rick Snyder campaigns for Medicaid expansion during electronic town hall forum

LANSING (WKZO) -- Governor Rick Snyder held a high-tech town hall meeting to talk about Medicaid expansion, or what he calls his “Healthy Michigan” program Monday evening.

Snyder was linked  from his press briefing room in Lansing to several other locations around the state by video and audio feeds. He took questions from all of the sites.

Snyder says we are already funding the Emergency room visits of folks without coverage through our higher insurance fees. He says it would save money to send them to doctors instead.

He took one question from Patriot Radio's “Trucker Randy" BISHOP who asked why he just didn’t opt out of Obamacare, like other states have done. The governor said because that will leave people without healthcare and at the mercy of emergency rooms.

Snyder says the goal is to help people.

State Senate leaders plan hearings on the issue on Wednesday.
