Michigan GOP lawmakers consider service tax for road funding

LANSING (WKZO) -- Some Michigan Republican lawmakers are reviewing a state sales tax on services to fund roads.  It would be a sales tax on the fees paid to doctors, lawyers, tax preparers, hair dressers, and others in order to fund a 1.2-billion dollar plan to refurbish the state’s roads.  It would also replace the retail gas tax with a 19-cent per gallon tax at the wholesale level.  Some business groups are already saying they opposed it when it was proposed by then-Governor Jennifer Granholm and will oppose it now.
