Michigan's wolves benefit from the snowy December

LANSING (WKZO) -- The state’s first wolf hunt in decades is coming to an end and will fall far short of the quota set by DNR officials.

They had set the goal at 43-wolves to try to control the population but the hunt ends with the New Year and only 21 have been killed so far.

The one thing they couldn’t control was the weather, which has been snowy and cold in southern Michigan, and Siberian-like in Northern Michigan, keeping hunters out of the woods for most of December.

The DNR estimated there were about 658-grey wolves in the wild before the hunt began on November 15th.
