Rumored Collection of Rare Beatles Tracks Gets Official Release via iTunes

A previously unreleased full version of "I Saw Her Standing There,"  the seventh take of "Do You Want to Know a Secret" -- these are just two of the 50-plus Beatles songs included on the much-rumored collection The Beatles Bootleg Recordings 1963 , which was officially released today on the U.K.'s iTunes service.

The purpose of the release is unclear, but the common belief is that it has to do with European Union copyright laws.  New legislation extended artists' copyrights on recordings that they've released from 50 to 70 years.  But copyrights on recordings that haven't been released remain at 50 years, so record company stood to lose their rights to the tracks that appear on this compilation -- of which some have circulated on the black market for years, according to CNN.

In addition to studio outtakes, The Beatles Bootleg Recordings 1963 -- priced at $40 -- includes more than 40 performances from the band's BBC radio appearances. It's not known if The Beatles Bootleg Recordings 1963 will get a U.S. release.
