Two more wolves claimed in Upper Peninsula wolf hunt

LANSING (WKZO) -- Two more wolves have been claimed since last week in the wolf hunting season in the Upper Peninsula.

The two additional kills bring the total to 17 wolves claimed of the 43 that are allowed under state law for the season.  That figure is of the just 658 wolves the Michigan DNR estimated to be living in the wild in the state's Upper Peninsula.

Though hunters are limited to one wolf per person, conservation group Keep Michigan Wolves protected says that's still too much and they are seeking to have a referendum placed before voters next year that could remove wolves from the state's list of game species.  The wolf hunting season runs through December 31st.
