Sunshine Daydream , the unreleased Grateful Dead concert film that was screened in select U.S. theaters last week as the third installment of the band's "Meet-Up at the Movies" event, is set to hit stores next month in various video and audio packages. The release, which documents an August 1972 show that The Dead played in Veneta, Oregon, will be available as a standard and deluxe three-CD/DVD set, a deluxe three-CD/Blu-ray package, a high-quality four-LP vinyl collection, and an audio-only digital download.
The concert featured in Sunshine Daydream took place at the Oregon Country Fair grounds and was a benefit for a local creamery owned by One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest author Ken Kesey 's family. The event saw The Grateful Dead reunite with their friends the Merry Pranksters, the counterculture collective led by Kesey. Among the songs performed at the show were "Bertha," "Playing in the Band," "Sugar Magnolia" "Casey Jones" and a marathon, 30-minute-plus rendition of "Dark Star."
The deluxe three-CD/DVD and three-CD/Blu-ray versions of the release will be available exclusively at Dead.net . The packages will offer a bonus documentary about the concert, as well as a 40-page book with a variety of newly written essays. Only 12,500 copies of each deluxe edition will be sold.
The vinyl and digital download versions of the album will be issued under the title Veneta, OR 8/27/72 (The Complete Sunshine Daydream Concert) . The four-LP set also will be a limited-edition release, with only 5,000 copies being made available.
