Bad Company will wind down its 40th anniversary tour next month with a series of shows in the northwestern U.S. and Canada, and when the trek is done, frontman Paul Rodgers will turn his attention to two album projects on which he's been working.  The powerhouse singer tells ABC News Radio that he's preparing a collection of soul covers as well as an album of new original tunes.

"I went down to Memphis and I did some recording down there with some of the Stax people," he reveals.  "I love Stax and it's very dear to my heart.  I just had a ball there, because that soul and blues music, that's my roots…so it's great to revisit that."

Among the artists associated with the famed label Rodgers says have inspired him are Sam and Dave , Otis Redding , Ann Peebles and Isaac Hayes .  "There's so many to choose from," he adds.

Meanwhile, Paul tells ABC News Radio that he's always working on new songs, while reporting that he'll focus on an album of original material "on the other side of the Bad [Company] tour."

As for when Rodgers expects to release the forthcoming records, he says, "As soon as I can, really.  I think the idea would be to have a new album of new songs sometime early next year, and, hopefully, the soul album this year."
