Zach Braff Reaches $2 Million Kickstarter Goal: 'I Won't Let You Down'

By Michelle Lee, Hollywood Staff

In just three days, Zach Braff has reached his goal and raised $2 million in a Kickstarter fund-raising campaign to film a follow-up to his 2004 movie Garden State. After seeing the success of Veronica Mars' Kickstarter.com campaign which generated $5.5 million in 30 days, the former Scrubs star appealed to fans to help finance his latest project Wish I Was Here, even promising gifts to the most generous donor.

Shortly after reaching his goal, an ecstatic Braff took to Twitter to thank fans. ''28,000 Financiers in 3 days! Un-f--king I will not let you down. Let's go make a killer movie!'' But not everyone's so thrilled. Many critics (including our own Brian Moylan and Kelsea Stahler) have questioned why fans are financing movies for millionaires and wondered whether resurrecting dead projects like Veronica Mars might actually sully our memories of our beloved projects in the long run.

It's no wonder why filmmakers see it as a viable and attractive route, though. As Braff explains, ''Financing an independent film the traditional way often means having to give away your right to the final cut, casting choices, location choices and cutting down your script to make it shoot-able on the cheapest budget possible.''
