It must be a slow news day in England, but that's good news for rock fans. The Manchester, U.K. paper Manchester Evening News is running a music nostalgia feature showcasing photos of the bands that have visited the British city over the years.

Among the rock acts featured the photo essay are Chuck Berry at the Odeon in 1965, and a young Mick Jagger and company in 1971, with Mick rocking a satin jumpsuit. A lipsticked Rod Stewart is shown vamping it up in the '70s, and The Beatles are also there, courtesy of two gigs in 1962 and 1963.

Speaking of how time flies, the  Manchester Evening News notes that back then, the Beatles' fee for performing was between 25 and 30 British pounds per gig.  That's about 500 pounds in today's money, or around $760 U.S. -- still one heck of a bargain.
