Chrissy Amphlett , lead singer of the Australian rock band Divinyls who scored a 1991 Billboard top-ten hit with "I Touch Myself," has died at age 53.

Multiple sources are reporting that Amphlett died of complications from breast cancer and multiple sclerosis.

Among those paying tribute to Amphlett is fellow Aussie Russell Crowe , who tweeted , "Dear Chrissie, The last time I saw you was in the Botanic Gardens, loving life and reciting verse. That's how I'll remember you, your boy, R."  Crowe and Amphlett starred on stage together early in Crowe's career in a 1988 Australian production of Blood Brothers .

Divinyls was formed in 1980 and remained together until 1997, releasing five studio albums.  The sexually-charged single "I Touch Myself" was off the band's 1991 self-titled fourth studio album and remains their biggest hit, topping the charts in Australia and peaking at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Divinyls briefly reunited in 2006 for a tour of Australia before again disbanding in 2009.  In 2005, Amphlett released the autobiography Pleasure and Pain: My Life .
