It taken more than a decade, but a new studio album may finally be on the way from Boston . A message posted on the band's official website reports that the group's mastermind, guitarist/songwriter Tom Scholz , expects to have the project ready for release by the middle of the year.
According to the note, "Tom is buried in the studio, lovingly coaxing his legacy analogue equipment to bear with him just a little longer while he wraps up the mix of his latest song, 'Someday.'" Scholz says the tune will be "the final song" for the album, noting that it "might be the title track."
He adds that "Someday" "reminds me of the uptempo rockers I wrote for [Boston's self-titled] debut album over 30 years ago."
Besides finishing the mix on that tune, Scholz reveals that he only needs "to redo vocals on a couple of the cuts, remix them, and sequence and master the album." The record will be Boston's first studio effort since Corporate America , which was released in November 2002, and the first since lead singer Brad Delp committed suicide in March 2007.
When he wraps up work on the new collection, Scholz says he'll turn his attention to a long-planned Boston concert DVD.
