DETROIT (WKZO) -- General Motors has announced a major investment into four powertrain facilities in the midwest to build fuel efficient engines and new transmissions.  Factories in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana will split over 331-million dollars.

Flint Engine Operations will see an investment of 215-million dollars to build a small Ecotec engine and will be part of a new generation of three and four-cylinder motors.  GM will also build new eight-speed transmissions in Toledo, Ohio and engine components will be built in Bedford, Indiana.

The company also announced a separate investment of 46-million dollars into plants in Romulus and Bay City.
