Lawsuit over Michigan's right-to-work laws will continue

LANSING (WKZO) -- A lawsuit challenging the validity of Michigan's right to work law will be allowed to move forward.

Ingham County Judge William Collette refused to dismiss the suit brought on by the American Civil Liberties Union, a coalition of unions and Democratic lawmakers.  They contend the state's Open Meetings Act was violated when the Capitol Building was closed during the heated debate due to safety concerns.

Attorney General Bill Schuette asked for a dismissal citing the fact that hundreds of people were already in the building when the doors were locked.  He also said during the Capitol closure the House was debating a third right to work bill that was never passed.
