A special screening of a restored version of Elvis Presley 's famous 1973 TV special, Aloha from Hawaii , will take place in Honolulu on January 14, 40 years to the day that the program originally aired. The movie event will be held at Neal Blaisdell Arena, the same venue that hosted Elvis' historic concert, which was watched live via satellite by an estimated 1.5 billion people in 40 countries.
The updated version of Aloha from Hawaii , which will be shown on multiple screens at the arena, boasts remastered video and audio remixed in Dolby 5.1 surround sound. The flick also will boast extra footage added especially for the 40th anniversary screening. Tickets for the event go on sale on Friday for $35 via Ticketmaster outlets and Ticketmaster.com.
The screening is part of a five-day fan celebration taking place in Hawaii from January 10 through January 15. The extravaganza will include a variety of activities and events at different locations significant to Presley's life and career. Among the festivities will be tribute concerts, tours and dance contests, as well as a panel discussion with actors and musicians who worked with Elvis.
