Actor Dennis Farina died this morning in Scottsdale, Arizona after suffering a blood clot in his lung. He was 69.
Farina served as a police officer in Chicago. His acting career began when he was hired by director Michael Mann to consultant on the 1981 film “Thief”. His film career included “Manhunter”, “Midnight Run” and “Get Shorty”. He also had a recurring role in the Zooey Deschanel comedy New Girl. Farina most recently starred in the HBO series “Lucky”. He is probably best remembered for his role as Detective Joe Fontana on NBC’s Law & Order.
Dennis Farina’s publicist asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The 100 Club of Chicago, which assists families of fallen Chicago-area police officers.
