This morning, I reported on Betty White having a twitter account after she said she never would. This new twiiter account seems to be a fake!
Yes, Betty White is on Twitter. Everyone’s favorite 90-year-old has finally graced us with her presence on social media by joining Twitter with her own verified account. Given her popularity, it didn’t take White long to accumulate over 90,000 followers in just a matter of hours. So what did White send out as her first tweet?
Yeah, we never thought a woman her age would want to ‘tweet’ either. But the timing couldn’t be more perfect. White’s new hidden-camera reality series, ‘Off Their Rockers,’ recently premiered on NBC and White used Twitter to promote her new show. The ‘Hot in Cleveland’ star also sent out a randy tweet to Ryan Seacrest.
But the next morning, Valerie Bertinelli, who costars on White's other show, TV Land's Hot in Cleveland, stirred up the Twitter-verse by suggesting White's account (which now has more than 144,000 followers) was not legit.
"Just spoke with Betty and she is VERY upset!" wrote Bertinelli. "@BettyMWhite is NOT her. Don't know how they got verified, but it is not Betty. Please RT!"
And many followers did in fact re-Tweet as the phones started ringing and emails starting flying at the offices of White's reps.
Minutes later, Bertinelli suggested the account heralded as "The Official Twitter Page of Betty White" was opened without White's knowledge.
"Stop the presses!" she wrote. "Betty just got a call. An account was opened on her behalf by her people. More to come..."
The "more" took the form of a retraction and a profanity.
"It's all a misunderstanding," wrote Bertinelli. "@BettyMWhite IS Betty's twitter account! Now follow me back, b----! ;-)"
She added, "I think @BettyMWhite pranked me but good! #blushing.
