Wanna Buy Eddie Van Halen's Frankenstrat Guitar?

by Mark Cartwright

Guitar freaks and Eddie Van Halen fans it's official:  Van Halen’s 1982 Kramer Frankenstrat, played during the 1982-1983 Diver Down tour, will be auctioned off December 18th by a California auction house called Profiles in History.  Any guitar player, anybody who played in a band in the 80s, like I did, instantly knows what this guitar looks like:  The beat up red guitar, with black and white random criss cross stripes, and misfit pick guard, so the pickups look like they could fall out at any moment..  In the mid 80s, EVERYBODY was playing a Kramer guitar because of Eddie Van Halen.  Sure Fender and Gibson still had their foothold, but Kramer was selling like hot cakes to all the Eddie Van Halen wannabees, and man there were TONS of them.  Now, there were several versions of the so-called Frankenstrat, especially on tour.  This one is expected to sell for $100,000 to $150,000.
