Best Days To Do Things from the Consumer mag Which?

    BUY A CAMERA – Monday:

Recent sales figures reveal that Monday is when there are the most sales of cameras online. They are already one of the cheaper electronic devices you can buy so many stores discount them even more to drive customers to their site after the weekend.

    EATING OUT – Tuesday:

Most restaurants do not get deliveries over the weekend. By Tuesday, everything is fresh again. Chef Anthony Bourdain says: “At anything less than a really good restaurant, Monday’s probably not your best day to eat fish.”

This is the driest day of the week. The Met Office say overcast conditions appear more frequently on a Friday afternoon, Saturday or Sunday.

  • "First Dog" Bo is on a diet!

    AT A GLANCE

     • On Monday, President Obama told the young winners of the first lady's healthy recipe competition that the family dog was on a diet

     • The President said "I only have one request for you, and that is try not to drop any scraps on the floor...Bo is on a diet right now and he will eat anything that he sees"

    ****************************

In a surprise appearance at the first ever "kids state dinner" Monday, President Obama told the young winners of the first lady's healthy recipe competition that the family dog was on a diet.

"I only have one request for you, and that is try not to drop any scraps on the floor," Obama told the group of assembled junior chefs in the East Room. "Because Bo... Bo is on a diet right now and he will eat anything that he sees, especially some of the tasty meals that you guys have prepared."

Wait, rewind. Bo is on a diet?

Whispers can only guess that FLOTUS is behind this. Over the past three years, Michelle Obama has made solving childhood obesity her goal as first lady, including launching a national exercise campaign called Let's Move! and planting a White House organic garden. Last week, she jokingly told Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas not to eat an Egg McMuffin.

OK, we'll admit it. In recent photos, Bo has been looking slightly beefy. But we had chalked that up to Portuguese water dogs' unruly, curly locks. Now we know POTUS must have been feeding him scraps beneath the table.

  • Phyllis Diller on Parenting

    Posted by Fitz

I was so sad to hear about the passing of Phyllis Diller at the age of 95. As a child, I loved her when she would appear on The Muppet Show. She was a true talent, funny and smart. And so very smart when it came to parenting. Here are some of Phyllis Diller’s gems on parenting:

    1. “Always be nice to your children because they are the ones who will choose your rest home.”

    2. “Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing up is like shoveling the walk before it stops snowing.”

    3. “Most children threaten at times to run away from home. This is the only thing that keeps some parents going.”

    4. “We spend the first twelve months of our children’s lives teaching them to walk and talk and the next twelve telling them to sit down and shut up”
